Resampler

Overview

The Resampler continuously buffers what your computer is playing, so a sound you liked is still there after it stops — a synth patch you were tweaking, a sample preview that went by, or a happy accident you didn’t catch in the moment. Instead of remembering to hit record before the good part, you reach back and keep it afterward. Capture runs on your machine. Audio stays local and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

While background capture is on, the Resampler keeps a rolling window of recent system audio — the most recent stretch is always available, and older audio falls out of the window as new audio comes in. Nothing is saved to your library until you choose to keep a piece of it. You interact with the buffer in two ways:

• Quick grab — a global shortcut copies the most recent few seconds to your clipboard from anywhere, even while you’re inside your DAW, so you can paste it straight in. This is the fast path when you know the sound just played and want it immediately.
• Scrub and select — open the Resampler to see the buffer as a waveform, scroll back through it, and drag out an exact selection to preview and keep.

Flagging a moment

When something good plays and you want to find it later, drop a flag. Flags mark that point on the timeline so you can jump straight back to it instead of scrubbing to hunt for it. A flag stays available for as long as its audio is still in the buffer; once the window moves past it, the audio is gone and the flag retires with it.

Keeping a grab

Once you’ve picked a selection (or used quick grab), you can:

• Save it to your library as a normal sample. Saved grabs go into their own Resampler collection and are analyzed and tagged like any other sample, so they’re immediately searchable.
• Copy it to paste into your DAW.
• Drag it straight onto a track.

Settings

Background capture is off until you turn it on. In the app’s preferences you can:

• Turn capture on or off.
• Choose which output the Resampler listens to.
• Set the buffer length — longer means you can reach further back, at the cost of more disk while capturing. The disk each length uses is shown so you can choose deliberately.
• Set the quick-grab length and the global shortcut that copies it.

An indicator appears while capture is running so it’s always clear when the Resampler is listening.
