Recall

Recall automatically tracks your interactions in Sample Vault — every search, drag, copy, prompt search, and assistant message — and displays them in a timeline you can browse. It also feeds this history to the AI assistant so it can give you smarter, more relevant suggestions based on what you’ve actually been doing.

Why Recall?

Without Recall, the AI assistant treats every conversation as a blank slate. With Recall enabled, it knows that you’ve been browsing dark techno kicks, dragging hi-hats into your DAW, and searching for 140 BPM loops — so when you ask “find me something that fits”, it already has context. What it tracks:
  • Sample drags — when you drag a sample into your DAW
  • Sample copies — when you copy a sample to your clipboard
  • Sample browsing — filter changes in the sample browser (search terms, tags, genres, tempo range, key, etc.)
  • Prompt searches — semantic searches by description
  • Assistant messages — messages you send to the AI chat

The Recall Panel

Open the Recall panel from the Layouts menu or by adding it to any dock layout. It appears as a scrollable timeline of your recent interactions, newest first.

Workspace Scoping

Recall is workspace-aware. When you have a workspace active, the panel shows only interactions from that workspace. When no workspace is selected, it shows global (non-workspace) interactions. The current scope is displayed at the top of the panel.

Filtering by Type

Use the toggle buttons at the top of the panel to filter by interaction type. For example, show only “Dragged” and “Copied” events to review which samples you’ve recently used, or show only “Assistant” events to revisit your chat history.

Sample Playback

For drag and copy events, Recall doesn’t just show the filename — it renders a full sample player inline. You can play back, drag, or copy the sample again directly from the Recall panel without navigating back to where you originally found it.

AI Context

Recall feeds a compact summary of your recent activity into the AI assistant’s system prompt. This happens automatically whenever you send a message — you don’t need to do anything. The AI receives up to 30 recent interactions, formatted as a brief activity log. This gives the assistant awareness of:
  • What samples you’ve been working with
  • What searches you’ve been running
  • What filters and genres you’ve been exploring
  • What you’ve asked the assistant previously
This context helps the AI make better suggestions, avoid repeating itself, and understand the direction of your current session.
Recall works best when you have a workspace active. The AI receives workspace-scoped history, so it understands the context of your current project rather than mixing in unrelated activity from other sessions.

Privacy

All interaction history is stored locally on your machine in Sample Vault’s local database. It is never sent to any server or shared with anyone. The only place this data leaves your machine is as part of the AI assistant prompt when you actively send a message — and even then, it’s a truncated summary, not the full history.
