# Dock Layouts

> Build a custom workspace by arranging panels the way you work

## Overview

Dock Layouts let you build your own Sample Vault workspace. Arrange any combination of panels — library, file browser, AI assistant, similar samples, note editor, and more — into a tabbed layout that matches how you actually produce.

## Creating a Layout

1. Open the **Layouts** menu from the title bar
2. Click **New Layout** and give it a name
3. Drag panels into position — split the view horizontally, vertically, or nest them as tabs within the same pane
4. Resize panes by dragging the dividers between them

Layouts are saved automatically as you make changes.

## Available Panels

| Panel           | Description                                                    |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Library | Browse and filter your full sample library |
| File Browser | Navigate your directory tree and manage samples |
| AI Assistant | Chat-based sample search and recommendations |
| Similar Samples | Automatically surfaces samples similar to what you're playing |
| Suggestions | Sample picks based on recent searches, drags, and your project |
| Note Editor | Write notes and to-do lists for your projects |
| Recall | View a timeline of your recent interactions and activity |
| Waveform | Display the waveform of played samples |

## Switching Between Layouts

Open the Layouts menu at any time to switch to a saved layout. Switching is non-destructive — your previous layout is always preserved.

## Modifying and Deleting Layouts

* **Rename**: Open the layout menu, click the layout name, and type a new one
* **Reset**: Drag panels back into your preferred arrangement and the layout saves automatically
* **Delete**: Remove a layout from the layouts menu — this does not affect your samples or notes

## Tips

<Tip>
  Create one layout for **browsing** (file browser + library + similar samples) and another for **composing** (assistant + note editor + a narrow library). Switch between them with one click as your session shifts from finding sounds to building ideas.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  You can open the same panel in multiple panes — for example, two Library instances with different filters applied side by side.
